Lead Barista — Casual with View to Permanent
Good Thing Café | Sydney NSW | 25–30 hrs/week
About the Role
Good Thing Café is looking for an experienced, confident, and quality-driven Lead Barista to join our team. This is a casual role averaging 25–30 hours per week, with a genuine view to a permanent position for the right person.
This position suits someone who thrives in a specialty coffee environment, is comfortable holding down the bar solo, and naturally brings a steadying influence to the Front of House team. If you care about the craft, take pride in their work through consistency and care — we'd love to meet you.
Key Responsibilities
Operate confidently as the sole barista during shifts, managing workflow with calm consistency.
Expert operation of our equipment:
Dial in and maintain espresso quality throughout each service using Ona Coffee.
Monitor coffee and milk inventory, track usage, and report low stock proactively.
Operate Square POS for efficient, accurate transactions.
Support and help guide the Front of House team, contributing to smooth service and a positive team culture.
Maintain a tidy, organised café — not just at the coffee station, but throughout the floor.
Equipment:
San Remo Racer 2 Group
Mahlkönig EK43 and E65 GBW grinders
Barissima Milk Machine
Experience & Qualifications
2+ years specialty coffee experience, ideally in a quality-focused or high-volume environment (30kgs + / Week).
Strong technical foundation: espresso extraction, milk texturing, grinder calibration, and workflow management.
Confident leading by example and guiding FOH colleagues with composure and clarity.
Cert III in Hospitality is desirable but not essential - demonstrated experience and skill will be considered equally
RSA is essential.
Comfortable working solo on bar with excellent attention to detail.
Must have full, unrestricted working rights in Australia.
Who We’re Looking For?
Skills matter as does the person for a team fit. We’re looking for someone who is:
Calm under pressure and consistent in their craft.
Warm with customers and professional in their presentation.
Proactive, reliable, and genuinely invested in quality.
Someone who takes ownership — of their station, their shift, and the team around them.
As absolute team player will to be involved in all aspects when needed.
Hours, Pay & Start Date
Casual position: 25–30 hours per week, with a view to permanent and increased hours for the right candidate.
Ideal days would be Tuesday to Saturday, but negotiable.
Pay negotiated based on experience and qualifications.
Start date flexible — happy to accommodate your circumstances.
