Alex Bray, CEO

As the founder and CEO of Need a Barista, Alex has over 15 years experience in the hospitality industry, both in Australia and abroad.

From humble beginings during his teen years working as a dishie at a cafe in Victoria's Yarra Valley, he begged the boss to let him learn the skills of the barista. Falling in love with the process of extracting the perfect cup, he set off to try his luck in New York City.

Having worked at multiple cafes and restaurants in the Big Apple, Los Angeles and Asia, he found himself slinging lattes upon his return to Melbourne. This is where he noticed the serious problems around cafe staffing, and the lack of a flexible and agile solution. So, in 2014, Need a Barista was born.

Since then, Alex has spent his days with the rest of the Need a Barista team connecting baristas to over 18,000 shifts at local cafes that they love. Speaking with those in the industry, and building the perfect staffing solution.

In his spare time he works on Need a Barista (and cooks and listens to music).
